Ok, so I have a history of worriers in my family. My Grandmother was a big worrier and my mom followed suit. In combination with my humanity, this generational worrying makes it seem so natural and easy for me to do the same thing. But, I refuse!! The bible sums up the uselessness of worrying in this one scripture:
Matthew 6:27 – Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
We can’t! Worry is one of the strongest indications that we don’t trust God in a certain situation, but how do we fix that? Here are 2 ways that can help you NOT to worry:
1. Pray – You can’t pray and worry at the same time. So rather than filling your every thought with concern, talk to God about it. Ask Him to help you to give the situation to Him. Pray for the peace of Holy Spirit to consume you. If you’ve never experienced that feeling before let me tell you, once you have you’ll want it all of the time!
2. Get in your Bible: There is nothing more uplifting and encouraging than reading story after story of the amazing works of Jesus. Follow that up with the knowledge and truth that He is the same yesterday, today and forevermore and pow! You’re on your way to freedom from those killer thoughts robbing you of your life.
This is a process. But the more we grow to know God, the more we will trust Him. The trick is to be consistent in your effort! If the worry returns, repeat these two things over and over. You can conquer those thoughts. You really can.
