Last year was definitely a year of finding purpose for me, and it feels so good to finally have a glimpse into what it is God wants me to do with my life. For years I spent my time getting an education, job hopping, getting a higher education and job hopping some more. Completely driven by money, I found myself utterly dissatisfied. Don’t get me wrong, I was proud of my accomplishments but was not fulfilled with my career path, not even a little. I knew there was more, I just didn’t know what that more was, but I did know my only chance at finding it was through Christ Jesus.
I began specifically praying for God to reveal my purpose to me. One day I was listening to the song “Every Day” by Da T.R.U.T.H. which spoke into my life in an amazing way! I honestly felt like that song spoke directly to me. In the lyrics he talks about clues on how to find your purpose by asking yourself some questions like “What do you do well?” and “What are some of your strengths?” These questions put me on the path to determining my purpose.
I asked the people closest to me what they thought I was really good at. Writing, giving good counsel/advice and doing my natural hair, I consistently got these same answers which was great, but I had no idea what to do with that information. I majored in marketing which didn’t fit into any of these areas. But, I decided to just pray more and continued to do those three things individually until God gave me more direction, and He did, Curly Christians. I thought to myself, “Really?”. Really! I get so much joy inspiring you all, especially in Christ. I love what I do. And even though it’s still fresh and new I know I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing.
Finding purpose, is a process. If you have not yet learned what your purpose is I would encourage you to start with your gifts and talents. God has gifted you in various areas, determine what those areas are and ask God how He wants you to use those gifts to honor and glorify Him. He will tell you. He might not tell you how you will make a living doing it but don’t let that discourage you! I still have no idea how I’m going to do it, but I do know that the Word of God says that my gifts will make room for me and bring me before great men. I trust that. God will give you exactly the information you need in order to take the next step. Then, you have to trust Him to get you to the next step. It’s a process! God wants to prosper you, but He also wants you to trust Him.
If you are in the process of finding purpose keep praying, look to the things you enjoy, your gifts and talents, they will help you determine what it is that God purposed you to do. Declare and receive that 2015 will be your year of finding and walking in your purpose.
